PETALING JAYA: Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman has taken no offence at Dr Mahathir Mohamad undermining the former PPBM Youth chief’s new youth-centric party, saying he will take the criticism with an open heart.
He also thanked Mahathir for his remarks, while reiterating that the party will be for all Malaysians while being led by youths.
“The majority of leaders will be technocrats, professionals, entrepreneurs, modern farmers, civil society leaders and others.
“We may be young, but we love Malaysia,” he said in a Facebook post today.
This comes after Mahathir earlier today downplayed Syed Saddiq’s chances of success in a general election with his new party, saying it was insufficient to only bank on the support of young voters.
While noting that youths make up a major portion of the electorate in Malaysia, the former prime minister said it will be difficult for Syed Saddiq’s party to succeed simply by appealing to youths.
Nonetheless, Mahathir maintained that he had a good relationship with the former youth and sports minister, saying there was no problem in working with him if their objective was also to fight corruption.–FMT
