Telekom Malaysia claimed there has been “no change to the upload speed configuration” of its 500Mbps (megabits per second) Unifi plan, contrary to online reports that said the company reduced the upload speed from 200Mbps to 100Mbps.
Instead, the company said there was an error in the original marketing material for the 500Mbps plan.
“We wish to inform that a correction was made to an error in the upload speed for the 500Mbps package stated in the Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ), Unifi portal and leaflets on Sept 2,” TM said in a statement to LifestyleTech.
It added that the right upload speed for its 500Mbps Unifi plan is 100Mbps instead of 200Mbps, and not as stated in the earlier versions of the FAQ, Unifi portal and leaflets.
The company apologised to customers for any inconvenience caused, adding that its website and marketing material have been updated to reflect the correct information.
The 500Mbps Unifi plan, introduced last month, costs RM249 a month.
According to the FAQ, customers who want a higher upload speed can opt for the 800Mbps plan which has a 200Mbps upload speed and is priced at RM349 monthly.
The company also claimed that the upload speed offered by its Unifi plan is sufficient for almost all customers.
“From the usage statistics of our existing Unifi customers, 90% of total users only utilised less than 5Mbps for upload. Common genuine usage includes gaming, VoIP (voice over Internet protocol), FTP (file transfer protocol), CCTV (closed-circuit television) and video streaming and other high latency applications,” TM said in the FAQ.–The Star
