MIC Assembly To Propose Firm Gov’t Action Against Those Playing Up Religious Issues

MIC will propose a resolution urging the government to take firm action against any party that stirs up religious issues, whether related to the official religion or other religions in the country.

MIC deputy president Datuk Seri M. Saravanan said this is one of the motions that will be presented at the 78th MIC General Assembly on Sept 15.

“There are two motions, with the first being support for the MIC leadership, which has already been presented at the state level. The second motion concerns issues related to religion, royalty and race (3R).

“MIC will emphasise this matter through a resolution calling on the government to take firm action against any party that plays up this issue, regardless of whether they touch on the official religion or other religions,” he told a press conference at the MIC headquarters here today.

In addition, Saravanan said the issue of government assistance, as well as employment and educational opportunities for the Indian community, will also be highlighted in the president’s keynote speech to be debated by delegates at the assembly.

Barisan Nasional chairman Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is expected to open the 78th MIC General Assembly, which will be held at the Ideal Convention Centre in Shah Alam.

A total of 1,480 delegates and 177 observers are expected to attend the assembly.
